backup my pc files to onedrive - Microsoft Community

hi, all,

i trying use 1 drive but confused.

i old type of user, using win 10 , i want have files on laptop , available offline as many times don't have internet.

now when in office , on network i want backup files 1 drive automatically, like old days backup hard drive hdd to 1 drive.

but when tried realized (point me if wrong) 1 drive opposite 

it sync 1 drive laptop

and don't get it, why have that?

onedrive cloud-based storage can save files can access anywhere are. can sync onedrive windows 10 laptop via file explorer. however, need an internet connection can sync changes you’ll making files on laptop onedrive , vice versa. here’s article talks how onedrive works windows 10.

you can still access files offline via file explorer. mentioned before, changes made files reflect in onedrive once connect internet. if want use onedrive backup, can save files , unlink afterward. way changes made on files not sync onedrive , can still retrieve old version of file. unlink onedrive windows 10, follow these steps:

1. right-click onedrive icon system tray area on taskbar.

2. select settings.

3. under account tab, click unlink onedrive.

you have 2 different copies of files. 1 saved in onedrive , 1 saved in file explorer. changes made on file saved in file explorer not synced onedrive while unlinked. if have sync changes to files, have link onedrive windows 10 laptop again following steps below:

1. type onedrive in search.
2. launch onedrive app.
3. enter credentials.
4. click next.
5. click use location.
6. check box beside folder want sync.
7. click next.
8. hit open onedrive folder.
