Outlook 2016 reports "An unknown error occurred, error code - Microsoft Community

i had been using outlook 2007 pop3 email client years , outlook 2003 before (i switched because had no choice).  i installed office 2016 pro , continued use outlook 2007 email client until had reboot.  after restarting, outlook 2016 took on email without notification , haven’t been able receive email since then.

 

i ran “scanpst.exe” repair pst files no change.  when try send , receive email, receive these error messages:  “sending reported error (0x8004010f): outlook data file cannot accessed” , receiving reported same error.

 

when tried create new pst file, message: "an unknown error occurred, error code 0x80004001"

 

i’ve tried searching solutions without success. 

 

microsoft should maintain list of possible error codes products return explain , how fix them.

 

how , can repair problems outlook 2016 has introduced pc?

there possible reasons why experienced said issue. may caused reboot performed. assist further, mean "outlook 2016 took on emails"?

working mac users @ business. have few issues outlook 2016 not seem have clear cut solutions can find searching community. new emails - messages sporadically go straight outbox after being sent, not send until user exits re-opens outlook, work after multiple restarts. error code see corresponding 17884 sync status - thousands of items have yet synced. sync status show proper statistics items syncing, statistics change 'server busy' , have no idea if still syncing in background or hung up. using 'sync folder' or 'send & receive' stack more items sync status window no progress made. connection window in bottom right corner - upon start up, display 'not connected'. can leave outlook open prolonged period of time , never change, if change status of outlook online offline multiple times in tools window. so far have rebuilt profile scratch within outlook tried opening outlook on multiple wifi networks tried ope
