Merge field variable changing value - Microsoft Community

hello,

i have set variable field operation such as

{set arrto {quote {if 1 0} {if 1 0 } {if 1 0}}}

then print variable

{arrto} 

and result expected record 011

i have same variable, has not been change when select , press shift+f9 results 101 , "".

i puzzled this. ideas?

first let's distinguish between bookmark value (the value of arrto) , result of { arrto } or { ref arrto } field

arrto has 1 value @ given point in time. if have

a: { set arrto }

b: { arrto }

c: { set arrto }
d: { arrto }

, select fields , execute them, value of arrto "that". because word executes fields sequentially (let's forget filds in graphics layer now) result be

a: 
b: this
c:

d: that

in other words, word not go , "correct" displayed value in line "b:". if select line b , press f9, should see result 

b: that

maybe sort of problem seeing.

is related other question { = { field } / 10 } field working ok but  { =0.1 * { = { field } / 10 } } returning error when { field } 101?

because if so, guess that characters in "101" field (perhaps thin spaces or such).
