Outlook unable to send read receipts. - Microsoft Community


for last few months outlook has been having trouble send read receipts. know majority of read receipts emails sent co-workers.

my setup is, server 2012 remote desktop connection enabled. have 16 users use rdc connect server job. office 365 pro+ installed , each user has own office 365 account. users except myself use outlook on server email. i'm not typically on server use thunderbird on local pc.

our email hosted time warner business class (now spectrum) on mail servers.

all users can send , receive emails without problems. it's read receipts getting stuck in outbox in outlook , progress bar when sending/receiving sending 1 of 5 (last number varies on number on read receipts trying sent) , errors out after minute. error message is:

task *** email address removed privacy *** - sending' reported error (0x800ccc0f) : 'the connection server interrupted. if problem continues, contact server administrator or internet service provider (isp). server responded: 550 5.1.0 esmtp server not available aup#o-1070'

our isp same company hosting our email , there nothing wrong , it's outlook problem. have double checked mail settings on every account , set same , correctly.

if log on webmail account , send email co-worker , request read receipt, log on same webmail under co-workers account, email comes in , popup asking if want send read receipt. select yes, log in webmail account , read receipt appears in inbox should.

i've been using mcfmapi utility remove stuck/hidden read receipts in everybodies outbox, it's not long before read receipt gets stuck.

i've sent test emails requesting read receipts personal roadrunner webmail account thinking maybe it's outlooks read receipt request , read receipts stuck in co-workers outbox in outlook.

anybody have suggestions or things try?

based on description, issue should related outlook desktop client. let's narrow down issue via steps below:

1. first, want make sure users using outlook of latest version. may check article below , confirm detailed version build in different channels.

if think it's huge workload, can update outlook on 1 user's pc , check result.

2. start outlook in safe mode. identify if issue associated add-ins.

to start outlook in safe mode, follow these steps: press windows logo key , r key on keyboard > in the search box, type outlook.exe /safe > press enter.

3. if have anti virus set scan emails, turn off, see if problem stops.

4. stuck receipts mean smtp server not accepting them. need either change servers or disable returning of receipts (or set ask) if messages generate reciepts address forwarded or account recieve only, won't sent.

if issue persists, please provide following further troubleshooting:

1. detailed outlook version build. file > office account > produce information.

2. screenshot of error message.

3. method use set accounts. (exchange/imap/pop3)

4. regarding ‘the progress bar when sending/receiving sending 1 of 5 (last number varies on number on read receipts trying sent) , errors out after minute. ’ mean read receipts work @ sometime?
