Outlook HTML email ignores hosts file - Microsoft Community

i have number of sites blocked in hosts file. these blocks work fine if try bring them in browsers. unfortunately, outlook html email showing images blocked sites. if click on "view in browser" links, images not show (which expected). how outlook obey hosts file? on outlook 2010 on windows 10, no exchange server, loading email pop3 accounts.

things have tried:

rebooting

ipconfig /flushdns

unchecking lmhosts in ipv4 config

hi,

the trust center feature in outlook helps users manage security , privacy of email account. gives control on automatic downloads, , displays pictures when open html email message.  we suggest managing automatic download in trust center resolve concern.  to this, open outlook > file > options > trust center > trust center settings > automatic download. make sure option don’t download pictures automatically in html e-mail messages or rss items checked , click ok close windows , relaunch outlook verify if issue resolved.

should have other concerns, don’t hesitate let know.

i aware can turn off automatically downloading images , accept them on sender-by-sender basis. doing that. trying block advertisers use disgusting "body horror" images advertise products. these ads served 3rd-party companies powerinbox , others , appear in otherwise wanted newsletters legitimate sources. not want block newsletter source. want able read newsletters without being disgusted extreme closeups of skin tags, pimples, warts, , other shock-value images displayed these advertisers. trying adding offending advertiser (not sender of newsletter) hosts file.

i believe, however, have solved problem. thought outlook ignoring hosts file see images in email clicking on "view in browser" did not show images in browser. after deleting windows/temp, appears hosts file being obeyed in outlook. problem cached images, not ignoring hosts file.
