all email attachments automatically open when viewing email. user not want happen. user not want attachments automatically download either.

steps i've taken:

to reset default behavior outlook prompt open or save file type, perform following steps:
1.open control panel folder options applet.
2.select file types tab.
3.scroll down extension type want reset.
4.select extension type, click advanced.
5.check "confirm open after download" check box, click ok.

6.click close folder options dialog box.

user reports not resolve issue.

outlook not have options download attachments automatically. modification of software might have enabled said action. may find article helpful. however, need determine if issue may have email account or application itself. since using exchange account, advise posting query in our technet forum better assistance. exchange accounts have own settings more complex typically answered here in microsoft community.

just add, have pros in our technet forum can provide appropriate solution , best advice on how go issue.

working mac users @ business. have few issues outlook 2016 not seem have clear cut solutions can find searching community. new emails - messages sporadically go straight outbox after being sent, not send until user exits re-opens outlook, work after multiple restarts. error code see corresponding 17884 sync status - thousands of items have yet synced. sync status show proper statistics items syncing, statistics change 'server busy' , have no idea if still syncing in background or hung up. using 'sync folder' or 'send & receive' stack more items sync status window no progress made. connection window in bottom right corner - upon start up, display 'not connected'. can leave outlook open prolonged period of time , never change, if change status of outlook online offline multiple times in tools window. so far have rebuilt profile scratch within outlook tried opening outlook on multiple wifi networks tried ope
