Can't convert my Powerpoint 2016 presentation to video. - Microsoft Community


i'm trying convert pptx presentation video. i've followed instructions, doesn't work. icon in destination file, says file size 0, , doesn't change, long wait. have tried mp4 , wmv.

hello philip,

when make recording of presentation, elements (narration, animation, pointer movements, timings, , on) saved in presentation itself. in essence, presentation becomes video audience can watch in powerpoint.

so have 2 options turning presentation video that's ready view:

  • save/export presentation video file format (.mp4 or .wmv), or

  • save presentation powerpoint show (.ppsx) file. (when opens powerpoint show file, appears full-screen in slide show, ready view immediately.)

after you've created slides , recorded timing , narrations , laser pointer gestures want include, you're ready create video file.

  1. on file menu, select save ensure recent work has been saved in powerpoint presentation format (.pptx).

  2. click file > export > create video. (or, in powerpoint 2016 only: on recording tab of ribbon, click export video.)

  3. in first drop-down box under create video heading, select video quality want, pertains resolution of finished video. higher video quality, larger file size. (you may want test them determine meets needs.)

    presentation quality

    1920 x 1080, largest file size

    computer , hd screens

    internet quality

    1280 x 720, medium file size

    internet , dvd

    low quality

    852 x 480, smallest file size

    portable devices

  4. the second drop-down box under create video heading tells whether presentation includes narration , timings. (you may switch setting if like.)

    • if haven't recorded timed narration, default value don't use recorded timings , narrations.

      the default time spent on each slide 5 seconds. can change timing in seconds spend on each slide box. right of box, click arrow increase duration, or click down arrow decrease duration.

    • if have recorded timed narration, default value use recorded timings , narrations.

  5. click create video.

  6. in file name box, enter file name video, browse folder contain file, , click save.

  7. in save type box, choose either mpeg-4 video or windows media video.

    you can track progress of video creation looking @ status bar @ bottom of screen. video creation process can take several hours depending on length of video , complexity of presentation.

    tip:   for long video, can set created overnight. way, it’ll ready following morning.

  8. to play newly-created video, go designated folder location, , double-click file.
