Outlook 2016 Mac can't send emails IMAP connection - Microsoft Community

specs: microsoft outlook mac  version 15.4, office 365 subscription

macbook pro laptop, newly wiped , running macoa high sierra version 10.13.1

isp provider:  charter (now spectrum)

i can receive emails fine.  when go send simple test email, says "connecting securely mobile.charter.net" , comes error message "connection server failed or dropped".

i worked 45 minutes yesterday outlook support person, whom gave control of laptop to.  in end, told me go isp (spectrum).  since can send , receive emails spectrum.net, said not problem.

we tried:

-overriding default outgoing server port:  making 587, 25 or leaving 465

-changing password mail account

-under "more options": authentication 1) use incoming server information  or 2)user name , pw (and yes, full email address here)

we can outlook 2016 use gmail account succesfully.

i can connect on iphone using same incoming/outgoing mail service (mobile.charter.net) , can send , receive messages there.

i cannot set apple mail on same laptop (i screen "add mail account", click sign in , hangs there).  i can setup thunderbird on laptop.

i have old mac laptop running outlook 2011 , connecting charter's old pop server- mail.charter.net- still working, not work now.

grateful help!

in case else following this, thought let know followed of suggestions of support no success.

the first support person talked helpful.  she added gmail account can toggle , forth between spectrum (aka charter) , google account, use gmail account send email.  not pretty, doable.

thanks outlook people trying, suspect problem on spectrum end won't tread these waters.

Outlook 2016 for Mac - Multiple Issues, Error 17884 - Microsoft Community

working mac users @ business. have few issues outlook 2016 not seem have clear cut solutions can find searching community. new emails - messages sporadically go straight outbox after being sent, not send until user exits re-opens outlook, work after multiple restarts. error code see corresponding 17884 sync status - thousands of items have yet synced. sync status show proper statistics items syncing, statistics change 'server busy' , have no idea if still syncing in background or hung up. using 'sync folder' or 'send & receive' stack more items sync status window no progress made. connection window in bottom right corner - upon start up, display 'not connected'. can leave outlook open prolonged period of time , never change, if change status of outlook online offline multiple times in tools window. so far have rebuilt profile scratch within outlook tried opening outlook on multiple wifi networks tried ope
