Sharepoint vs Dropbox - Microsoft Community

we've used dropbox in our business few years , small team has been great, we're growing it's becoming quite expensive we're evaluating sharepoint alternative it's included our office 365 package.

i've set couple of team folders in sharepoint online , synced them pc have 2 folders accessible both laptop , desktop machines colleague.

one of issues we've come across documents open read-only (have click link able edit) - there way prevent can edit straight away (like dropbox)?  gives warning "files internet can contain viruses", thought opening copy pc.

also, can explain happens if 2 people edit same document?  far can see, if both online lock document user, if 1 person offline , edits, whilst online , edits?

has made similar move dropbox sharepoint?  out for?  pros/cons?

many thanks

steve

hi steve,

q1:

suggest try turning off protected view in office applications:
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/what-is-protected-view-d6f09ac7-e6b9-4495-8e43-2bbcdbcb6653#bm5

if notification persists, confirm following information:
1. screenshots of notifications. 1 "open read-only initially", 1 "have click link able edit" , 1 "files internet can contain viruses".
2. did open document online or synced folder in local pc?
3. have set require check-out files in library. please capture screenshot of versioning setting page

q2:

default, if users have edit permission, can open same document simultaneously online or client andcollaborate on word documents real-time co-authoring. situation , better answer question, clarify situation first:
1. screenshot regarding "as far can see, if both online lock document user,".
2. did settings sharepoint site?

believe every products have pros/cons. suggest more tests in sharepoint online. , welcome post new threads questions, try our best support you.

regards,
linda
