Office 2016 word documents defaulting to expired office prof plus 2010 - Microsoft Community

new install of office 2016 home , business still allows documents default expired office professional plus 2010. need uninstall 2010 correct this? don't want blocked accessing documents! working windows 7.

since office 2010 "expired", correct in assuming don't intend use ever again? if that's true, means uninstall it. after that, run repair of office 2016 fix registry bits tell windows program use when double-click document's icon.

if reason want keep both versions on same machine simultaneously, there several things need do.

• first run repair of office 2016. then...
• add "norereg" value registry each version of word. instructions, see "hacking registry" section of http://www.gmayor.com/toolbars_in_word_2007.htm or "multiple versions of word" section of https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2784668. key use word 2016 is hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\16.0\word\options.
• each version should given own separate user templates folder. can retain default %appdata%\microsoft\templates folder office 2010 , make new folder office 2016. point office 2016 programs new folder, open options dialog save page , enter path of folder in "default personal templates location" box. you'll have each program.
• if documents still open in 2010 when double-click them, there's series of registry edits can force windows use 2016 instead. if find need that, write (fairly long) instructions.
