Outlook file previewer breaking daily - Microsoft Community

hello,

i trying 1 of users perplexing issue. having exact problem described in microsoft article below:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3100511/-this-file-cannot-be-previewed-because-there-is-no-previewer-installed

first, information users setup:

- windows 7 professional sp1 x64

- microsoft office 365 business

- vmware horizon virtual machine

- connecting via hp thin client

couple of other points

1) cannot download/install patch referenced in fix because office 2016, apparently different enough office 365 business patch not applicable , won't allow me install it. result must use registry workaround

2) registry fix works no problem, however, problem reverts every day.

- cannot life of me figure out causing this. have removed both user , machine group policies (to test), there no scheduled tasks outside of normal "baked in" windows tasks, , getting no relevant information event logs (though it's possible i'm looking in wrong place"

3) built separate virtual machine user, , problem followed onto new vm. users personal data transferred (not appdata, in case)

4) building , testing new virtual machine (before user using it), connect remotely using manageengine , vmware console. when accessing vm way, did not seem break previewer. once swapped vm user , logged in @ desk, broke.

5) have replaced thin client twice, eliminate chance of hardware issue.

6) sitting @ users desk, can run registry fix, log out, , log in , previewer continue work, seemingly ruling out having login breaking it.

i sure forgetting little details, if has idea causing ears.

thanks

hello johnny,

not entirely sure why won't let me sign proper microsoft account, either way wanted solution provided did not resolve going on, did find solution.

basically have line of business accounting software opens outlook part of it's startup routine. seems previewer not work if opened way. totally unaware user opening outlook way, looking explains why , had such different experiences while troubleshooting (because opening through standard shortcut).

either way, thank help
