Using latest Microsoft software, iCloud no longer downloads contacts, - Microsoft Community

i see instance of icloud/outlook issue has been around couple of years , which, amazingly, neither apple or microsoft make necessary coordinated effort solve, or totally abandon.  difference see problem on thousands of other users have asked have latest software versions installed.   so, must try solve problem syncing method prefer use.

i have 2 provisioned pcs, iphone 8 , ipod.  have been using icloud sync calendars , contacts on these devices while.  last week got message microsoft upgrade pc anniversary edition of windows 10 creator version.  checked c drive sfc/scannow, uninstalled virus protector, turned on windows defender , disabled startup programs.  after microsoft upgraded os hour later, turned on startup programs thought need, installed office 365 (really leased version of office 2016), , uninstalled office 2007.  still able sync calendar , contacts using icloud , “appeared” well.

however, happened notice change icloud settings panel.  when first set icloud, there 4 selection boxes, 1 of said “mail, contacts, calendar , tasks,” 1 checked, before.  next time checked icloud settings panel, box gone, while other 3 remain, though outlook still syncing contacts , calendar correctly.  being person not loose ends on computer, tried “sign out” of icloud, selecting sign out box maybe open , make anomaly go away.  but, got error message said “setup can’t continue because outlook isn’t configured have default profile.  check outlook settings , try again.”  when check outlook settings, see pop3 email account isp set default, don’t know means.  also, icloud installer established new imap account suffix @me.com has saved data .ost file, on other computer.

 

i managed in touch second level tech @ apple, walked me through number of steps see wrong, including reinstalling icloud, @ version 7. unfortunately, not did not solve problem, now icloud not download contacts , calendar outlook on pc when reinstalled, (i don’t know original database went, , apple tech says research problem on own). note: icloud still works on other pc, settings dialog, uses anniversary edition of windows 10 office 2016 standalone).  uninstalled icloud control panel again (had use override option panel not sign out) , reinstalled.  still opens without contacts/calendar selection box, now, if select calendar or contacts folder in outlook, alert , dialog box says “the set of folders cannot opened.  information store not opened.” apple tech thinks icloud add-in in outlook not telling icloud profile or other info needs download data.  checked add-in in outlook, , turned on.

i know lot, suspect problems stem 1 problem.  hope not become ping pong ball between apple , microsoft. has source of problem been found?   if not, reluctantly ask if recommends cloud based approach or product enable me keep pcs , mobile devices synced?

i saw unrelated post talks mail setting folder outlook 2016 within windows control panel.  folder has mail setup outlook window allows establishment of profiles , data files.  relevant the “setup can’t continue because outlook isn’t configured have default profile.  check outlook settings , try again.”  error message?  

as using , synching cloud before upgrading everything, data files must still on computer. might icloud control panel not have mail, contacts , calendar selection not detect these files exist when installing?
