Photos in OneDrive not being displayed as images - Microsoft Community

this rather long story, please bear me, trying friend problem.

she has had hotmail account many years, uses outlook.com webmail , uses onedrive storage of documents. hasn’t used own photos far.

between have account set of shared folders include photos, , has uploaded pictures shared area on many occasions.

recently wanted put set of photos personal onedrive use ipad show them elderly mother. however, on uploading images not visible through ipad onedrive app – merely show generic grey mountain icon, , tapping on produced ‘what want item’ options instead of displaying photo.

so looked @ onedrive through browser on pc , displays image icons rather images themselves. clicking here results in offer download etc rather standard immediate view of full picture.

after lots of testing can report following:

1. photos jpgs. sources vary

• some taken iphone, sent friend email , saved pc email
• some taken friend on own iphone , uploaded pc via icloud
• some old ones taken on digital camera , uploaded via direct cable connection in past

2. images have file information included (date taken etc)

3. 3 different methods of uploading produce same results:

• dropping images onedrive folders within file explorer on pc
• dropping images onedrive folders through browser
• using “upload” button in browser

4. 2 different browsers have been tried – internet explorer , edge – same result.

5. following comments seen online, have tried doing sequence of
            upload, download, delete original online folder, re-upload downloaded version

but still no improvement.

6. within same browser, images can uploaded (or dragged pc) shared area not owned friend. in case pictures become visible through both browser , ipad client – ie. all works should.

• the same folder of images can moved shared folder friend’s personal onedrive – , visible normal pictures.

further testing photos copied different computer via usb.

1. uploaded images onedrive different user account – works (in fact, tried 3 different accounts , work okay)

2. log in friend’s account on second computer – upload attempts again result in problem of getting image icons instead of full pictures.

so attempt sum up:

1. any images uploaded directly friend’s onedrive account unusable, multiple browsers , multiple computers.
2. the same image files work absolutely fine other user accounts on same computers.
3. the same images can uploaded problem user’s account shared folder in account without problem.
4. once in shared area, problem user can move them own account , work fine.

can please me account working allow upload photos own onedrive account without having go via second account.

issue you’ve encountered regarding program may caused files or components broken or missing on system. sort out concern, suggest follow steps provided in article on how fix onedrive sync problems. once you’re on page, choose operating system using under first, using windows or mac section, , proceed next step complete process. once you’re done, check if issue persists.
