Legacy text form field no longer allows enter for new line, or - Microsoft Community

i have couple word documents have used years -- have legacy "text form field" boxes employees can type notes fields before sending them out mailing list.

earlier year documents started misbehaving.  no longer can press "enter" new line within field (if hold down shift , press enter work), , if press backspace delete 1 character, , no longer respond backspace or other keystroke.  work around that, have place cursor before last visible character , begin typing, @ point work.  still, cumbersome.  few months ago worked microsoft support , didn't have ideas.  i've done multiple reinstalls of office.  no luck.  new documents try build have exact same issue, including when use newer rich text content control (which don't care anyway don't fields not typed still "click or tap here enter text").

i don't know else try , appreciate thoughts!

if issue not exist when word started in safe mode, presence of add-in.  add-ins unique user profile (due word startup folder being sub-folder along user name path - c:\users\[user name]\app data\roaming\word\startup), when create new profile, startup folder of profile not contain of add-ins present in startup folder of original profile.
