Text isn't properly minimizing under headers in Word 2016 - Microsoft Community

when i'm going through large word document inserting headers, text formatted multiple columns (and text below it) not minimize under corresponding header. text isn't formatted multiple columns minimizes fine, format chunk of text multiple columns, columns , text below them no longer minimize (until next header, @ point issue "reset" until use column formatting agaim).

here photo illustrate problem:

i'm running windows 10 , have office 365 home subscription. feature that's supposed there? or issue can fix? want able minimize text under headers make working large documents easier, issue breaks functionality.

thanks help.

there couple of possibilities, they'll involve additional fiddling text if need edit it.

one way replace two-column section (and section breaks @ beginning , end) with a two-column-one-row table , turn off borders. you'll have manually move text (and images) end of first column second column balance column lengths. if later add or remove in table, you'll have manually rebalance columns.

another way use 2 side-by-side text boxes. use size settings on drawing tools tab make them same size. to ensure text boxes stay want them, click drawing tools > position > more layout options , set first box "left relative column" , second box "right relative column", both of them "top relative margin". click in left box , click create link button on drawing tools tab, , click in right box -- text "flow" left box right box. (note boxes don't automatically resize when text exceeds total length -- manual adjustment. don't continue next page; you'd have draw pair of text boxes , link box 2 box 3 , box 3 box 4. there's a maximum of 32 linked boxes.)
